SpaceX's growth numbers no longer move its stock the way a beat like this once would have.

Wall Street expected relief. Instead, shares fell again right after the numbers came out.

The company's first earnings report since its June IPO showed revenue up 92% year-over-year, comfortably beating Wall Street estimates, according to CNBC reports. That kind of growth would normally be treated as validation for a newly public company.

But the beat followed a brutal stretch. Shares had already fallen nearly 40% in the lead-up to Tuesday's release, a decline steep enough that even a strong quarter had ground to make up.

CEO Elon Musk used the report to reaffirm a $1 trillion revenue target, even as AI-related capital expenditures keep climbing. Investors did not treat that reaffirmation as reassurance. The stock dropped again after the numbers landed, with attention shifting away from the 92% growth and toward how much the AI buildout is costing.

That reaction is the real story here. A revenue beat this large would typically anchor a stock, not sink it further. Instead, the market's focus on capex suggests investors are pricing SpaceX less on what it earned this quarter and more on what its AI ambitions will cost going forward. Growth alone is no longer the metric deciding how this stock trades. Until spending and returns come back into balance in investors' eyes, even strong headline numbers may keep getting overshadowed by the price tag attached to Musk's bigger bet.
